Quick answer: You don't need crafting jobs to make gil. Gather in-demand materials, farm marketable monster drops, run treasure maps, flip NPC-to-market and cross-world price gaps, and send retainers on ventures. All of these value items at live market prices, so you can earn steadily using only combat and gathering classes — or just smart buying and selling.

Leveling eight crafters is a game in itself, and plenty of players simply don't enjoy it. Good news: crafting is optional. These six methods earn real gil with zero Disciples of the Hand — some purely with combat jobs, some with nothing but starting capital.
Miner and Botanist are gathering jobs, not crafting jobs — and they're the closest thing to printing gil. No material costs means everything you gather is pure profit, and timed (unspoiled) nodes at high level yield materials that crafters constantly need but can't be bothered to gather themselves. That laziness is your margin.
The catch: gatherable prices crash and spike constantly as supply floods in. The gathering tool ranks every gatherable by live value on your world, so you spend your time on nodes that are actually paying this week.
Hundreds of items sold by NPC vendors for fixed prices resell on the market board for multiples — furnishings, orchestrion rolls, materials, minions. Buy from the vendor, list on the board, collect the spread. It requires no combat, no gathering, no crafting: just knowing which items have a gap, which is exactly what the vendor flipping tool computes live (after the 5% market tax, based on what items actually sell for).
Unlock retainers, assign them a class, send them on ventures — they bring back sellable items whether you're raiding, gathering, or offline. Combat retainers work off your combat gear, so pure battle players can run them too. Rank ventures by live loot value with the venture calculator, and stock cheap ventures via Expert Delivery — buying cheap gear off the board and turning it in for Grand Company seals.
Marketable materials drop all over the overworld — hides, reagents, old-expansion materials that nobody farms anymore but crafters still need. The mob farming tool shows which drops are worth money on your world and exactly which mobs drop them, with map pins.
Old dungeons and raids are the other half: run unsynced, they drop tradeable minions, orchestrion rolls, and glamour that collectors pay well for. The duty drops tool ranks all 244 duties by total drop value so you know which content is worth the run.
Timeworn maps (gathered daily, or bought straight off the market board) open portals to fights that pay out gil, materia, and valuable materials. A full map party rotating eight maps is genuinely fun and profitable — one of the few gil methods that's better with friends. No crafting involved; if you buy your maps, no gathering either.
World visiting lets you buy on any market board in your data center. Prices for the same item routinely differ by thousands of gil between worlds, so buy where it's cheap, come home, list it. The cross-server arbitrage tool scans live prices across your data center to find spreads worth the trip. All it takes is starting capital and a teleport.
No. Crafting has the highest ceiling in active play, but a gatherer with timed-node rotations, a disciplined flipper, or a well-run retainer stable earns competitive gil — and they stack, since ventures run passively under everything else.
If you have gathering jobs: gathering. If you have capital but no jobs leveled: vendor flipping. If you barely log in: retainers. Then check the live rankings — the best specific target changes daily with your server's prices.
